REUSE Circular Stories: Henk Langstraat, an insurance perspective
Henk Langstraat is currently working as Lead Sustainable Living at Nationale-Nederlanden. He has extensive experience in the insurance industry, both nationally and internationally, in product development precisely tailored to customer needs. Henk examines what climate change means for NN customers and how they can help them become resilient. In this video, Henk discusses the concerns around circular and timber-based buildings, which are often perceived as higher risk despite incidents being rare. He explains that the real challenge lies in the potential impact when something does go wrong, requiring insurers to rethink how risks are assessed and managed. Rather than focusing solely on financial compensation, he highlights the need for new insurance models that support repair, adaptability, and long-term resilience in a circular built environment.

Ir. Kim Sinnige has been working for the Circular Impulse Initiative within the CBE Hub since 2022. She graduated cum laude from the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft in 2023. Her master thesis explored the embedding of circular values into a Waste-to-Energy plant through storytelling, Material Flow Analysis and design. She completed her bachelor with honors at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Eindhoven in 2018. Between her degrees, she has worked in architecture offices in Utrecht and Arctic Norway.
